Carl Giesking Services Held
Carl Giesking, of Grundy Center, passed away Monday, August 7, at the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center, of natural causes, having attained the age of 89 years, 4 months and 13 days.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 10, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established.
Carl Conrad Giesking was born March 25, 1906, in Winnebago County, near Woden, the son of Henry and Hermine (Kock) Giesking. Carl moved with his family as a young child to Grundy county five miles northeast of Wellsburg where he grew up and lived until his marriage to Katie Geiken on January 1, 1936.
Carl was baptized on June 3, 1906, at St. Paul Lutheran Church northeast of Wellsburg. In 1937, Carl transferred his church membership to East Friesland Presbyterian church and in 1946, he joined Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland.
He farmed in Grundy county until his retirement in 1971, when he and Katie moved into Grundy Center. Carl became a resident of the Grundy Care Center in August of 1990.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister, Hermine Geisking; 1 infant sister; and 1 infant brother.
Survivors include his wife, Katie; 5 children, Mrs. John (Clarene) Schipper of Ackley, Mrs. Lloyd (Harriet) Schares of Janesville, Wendell (Phyllis) Giesking of Reinbeck, Mrs. Roger (LeAnn) Espe of Decorah, and Clifford (Carolyn) Giesking of Albion; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Albert (Charlotte) Hempen of Cedar Falls; and 2 brothers, Willie Giesking of Wellsburg and Alvin Giesking of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
