Funeral Services For Dena Meyer

Dena Meyer of Grundy Center, passed away of natural causes on Thursday evening, February 15, 1996, at the Long Term Care Unit of Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, having attained the age of 87 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 19, 1996, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, Iowa, with the Reverend Larry C. Hoop officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jake Heeren, Jake Hemmen, Joe Junker, George Schmidt, Tom Simms, and Charles Thoren.

A memorial has been established.

Born August 5, 1908, in Colfax Township, Grundy County, Iowa, Dena was the daughter of Harm and Gertie (Rust) Penning. She grew up and received her education in Grundy County. On December 2, 1929, Dena was united in marriage to Milf "Kelly" Meyer at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. The couple farmed in Grundy County, retiring in 1962.

Dena was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland and the Womens Missionary Society. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Leona Everts, in 1984; and husband Milf in 1992.

Survivors included four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Harold Everts of Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
