Ella Paterni Services Held
Ella Paterni, of Grundy Center, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, February 19, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo having attained the age of 88 years, 9 months and 24 days.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 22, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were T. J. Heronimus, Charles Kruse, Jerry Bakker, Paul Schoon, Dave Heronimus and Royce Paterni. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Kruse, Irvin Abels, Gary Brower, Jay Brower and Randy Bakker.
A memorial fund has been established.
Born April 24, 1908, in Grundy County, Ella was the daughter of Heye and Alice (Franken) Heronimus. She grew up and received her education in Grundy County. Ella worked for the J.C. Penney Department Store in Grundy Center for several years. She was united in marriage to Lucas C. Kruse on March 20, 1929, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1938. On June 7, 1949, Ella was married to John J. Paterni at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland.
Ella was a lifelong member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Lucas Kruse; second husband, John Paterni in 1977; 1 step-son, Clarence Paterni; 1 grandson, Jimmy Kruse; 3 brothers, Tom, Paul, and George Heronimus; and 3 sisters, Hazel Abels, Gertrude Hansen, and Lillian Heronimus.
Survivors include 2 sons, James Kruse and wife, Dolores of Sioux City and Norman Kruse and wife, Carolyn of Bonita Springs, Florida; 4 grandchildren; 1 step-grandson; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Tena Schoon of Holland, Mae Brower and husband, Alfred of Ackley, Elma Siefken and husband, Henry and DeLoris Bakker, all of Grundy Center, and Iva Dean Itzen and husband, John of Cedar Falls; 2 sisters-in-law, Grace Heronimus of Holland and Lavon Heronimus of El Paso, Texas; 1 brother-in-law, Clarence Kruse and wife, Mae of Holland; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
