Cora Slifer Services Held
Cora Slifer, 81, of Grundy Center, passed away of cancer Tuesday, October 22, 1996, at the Hospice Care Unit of Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 25, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland with Pastor Larry Hoop officiating. Pallbearers were Chuck Thoren, Jake Heeren, Orlen Kruger, Larry Stahl, Mike Freed, Tom Simms and Jake Hemmen. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Cora Slifer was born September 7, 1915, in Bemis, South Dakota, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Casjens) Harberts. She attended country school at Lincoln #4. Cora was united in marriage to Arthur Slifer on July 22, 1938, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church. She and Art farmed in rural Grundy County until retiring in 1974.
Cora was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian church where she taught Catechism and played the piano for Bible School and Catechism classes.
Cora was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Charles Harberts in May of 1996; three brothers-in-law, Harry Ascher, Samuel Rust and Harold Eiklenborg; and one sister-in-law, Beryl Harberts.
Survivors include her husband Arthur of Grundy Center; her daughter Rebecca Randall and husband Ron of Grundy Center; one grandson, Chris Randall of Grundy Center; four sisters, Delia Rust, Ruth Ascher and Carolyn Harberts of Grundy Center, and Isabelle Eiklenborg of Dike; four brothers, Floyd and Alfred Harberts of Grundy Center, Dick Harberts of Waterloo, and Russell Harberts of Hudson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
