Ella Luchtenburg Services Held

Ella Luchtenburg, of Grundy Center, passed away Saturday, April 3 at Covenant Medical Center at Waterloo of natural causes having attained the age of 95 years and 3 months.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church with Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiating.

Pallbearers were Loren Flater, Tim Flater, Mark Luchtenburg, Brodie J. Luchtenburg, Joel Arends, and Miles Luchtenburg.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ella was born January 3, 1898 in Shiloh Township, Grundy county, the daughter of Frank and Isbrandena (Kurtzleben) Hippen. She attended Shiloh Township Schools. On December 23, 1919 she was united in marriage to Sieko Luchtenburg at East Friesland Church in rural Ackley by Rev. Engelke.

Ella and Sieko started housekeeping east of Wellsburg and also west of Wellsburg before moving in 1930 to their farm 5 1/4 miles north of Grundy Center. They retired in 1959 and moved into Grundy Center. In June of 1990, Ella became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.

Ella has been an active member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sieko in July of 1978; her parents; one sister, Mrs. John (Grace) Geiken; two brothers, Jake Hippen and Henry Hippen; and five infant brothers and sisters.

Survivors include four children: Frank and wife Marian of Cedar Falls; Lillian and husband Art Falter of Grundy Center; Donald and wife Darlene of Grundy Center; and Pauline and husband Lee Arends of Parkersburg; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Harms of Waterloo; and two brothers, Herman Hippen of Wellsburg and John Hippen of Aplington.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
