Emma Dirks Services Held

Emma D. Dirks, 94, of Rutledge Home, Chippewa Falls, died April 20 at the nursing home.

She was born October 25, 1897, in Waukon to William and Anna (Reutkinmeier) Meier. She grew up in Waukon and lived in Dubuque where she graduated from high school and nurses training.

She married Rev. Evert O. Dirks on June 3, 1920, in Dubuque. They lived in Millner, N.D., where her husband was a Presbyterian minister. They served parishes in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, the last being in Cotter, Iowa. They retired and moved to Chippewa Falls in 1958. She had resided at the Rutledge Home since September 1, 1987.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian church.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Lea) Dirks of Chippewa Falls, Richard (Alice) Dirks of St. David, AZ, and Donald (Lorraine) Dirks of Marble Falls, TX; one daughter, Charlotte (Ronald) Griffin of Edgerton, MN; two sisters, Hulda Chisholm and Charlotte Hepperle, both of Marble Falls, MN; 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on December 3, 1971; her parents; and one sister, Lydia Hepperle.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 22 at 7 p.m. at the Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel with Rev. Barry Boyer officiating.

Services will also be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 23 at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Colfax Center Cemetery rural Holland. A memorial fund has been established.
