Juliet O'Ressa "Jolly" Meyer was born March 16, 1891, in Dows the daughter of Ole and Louise (Nelson) Thompson. She passed away on Sunday, May 3, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center having attained the age of 101 years, 1 month, and 17 days.
Mrs. Meyer grew up in the Dows area and graduated from Dows Public Schools. She then attended Ellsworth College, and graduated in 1909. Following graduation, she taught near Dows, then taught at Colfax Center #4 from 1912 to 1919. She was united in marriage to Eilert J. Meyer on December 28, 1918 in Grundy Center. Jolly and Eilert farmed in Colfax Township, Grundy county for several years. In 1955 they moved and made their home in Grundy Center.
Jolly was a member of the Grundy Center Art Club and the Grundy Center Womans Club. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, gardening, and needlework.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eilert in 1986; one daughter, Helen Louise; one infant daughter; her parents; three brothers, Alvin, Alfred, and Arthur; and three sisters, Tina Jacobson, Hattie Odekirk, and Alma Thompson.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. George (Gladys) Ebert, Mrs. Loran (Thelma) Mohr, both of Ames, and Mrs. Barbara Martin of Tampa, FL; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 6 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. David and Laura Stellmon officiating. Pallbearers were Clarence Kruse, T.J. Heronimus, Harlan Dirks, Marlyn D. Meyer, Ben Heronimus, and Duane Meyer. Burial was in the Colfax Center Cemetery in rural Holland.
Memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the professional services.
