Family Mourns The Passing Of Jerry Peters
Funeral services for Jerry H. Peters, 89, of 604 11th Street, Grundy Center, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland, with burial in the church cemetery.
The Rev. Larry C. Hoop, pastor of the Colfax Center church, officiated the service.
Casket bearers were Ed Brower, Dick Werkman and C. W. Kruse, Holland; Vernon Reinicke and Clarence Ennenga, Grundy Center; and Vernon Stockdale, Aplington.
Special music was provided by organist Sandy Simms and vocalists Dwayne and Elaine Sents. Vernice Schmidt and Louise Reinicke were flower attendants.
Mr. Peters passed away at 12:40 a.m. Sunday at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, where he had resided for 3 1/2 months.
Jerry was born March 25, 1901, at Wellsburg, the son of Harm and Elsie Peters. He attended public school in the Wellsburg area, as well as the Grundy College, Grundy Center, and a Kansas City technical school.
He owned and operated the Peters Grain Co., Holland, for many years, and also was a livestock buyer.
Mr. Peters was a member of the board of directors of the Farmers Savings Bank, of Grundy Center and Holland, from 1947 until his retirement in 1972, and he later was an honorary director.
He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, which he served as an elder and trustee as well as a member of various church committees.
Mr. Peters was united in marriage to Wilhelmina (Minnie) Getting on December 25, 1924. To this union was born one child, a daughter, Mildred, now Mrs. Troy Anderson of Grundy Center. Mrs. Peters passed away on Feb. 7, 1958.
Jerry was married to Lois Smit on February 20, 1962, at the Colfax Church church parsonage. They made their home in Grundy Center until his final illness and death.
Survivors include his widow, Lois Peters, of Grundy Center; a daughter, Mildred, Mrs. Troy Anderson, also of Grundy Center, one granddaughter, Pat, Mrs. Gale Bonsall, of Cedar Falls; and two great-granddaughters, Anne and Jill Bonsall, of Cedar Falls.
Also surviving is one sister, Lydia Bausman, of Grundy Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jake and Harm; and two sisters, Emma, Mrs. Sed Cogswell, and Tillie, Mrs. Lynn Bausman.
