Arthur Slifer, 85, of Grundy Center passed away on Thursday, August 5, 1999 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 9 at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Tim Diehl officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers were Chuck Thoren, Randy Thoren, Jake Heeren, Jake Hemmen, Larry Stahl and LeRoy Ennenga.

Art was born on August 20, 1913 in Grundy Center the son of Ed and Kate (Johnson) Slifer. He attended school in Grundy Center. On July 22, 1938 Art was united in marriage to Cora Harberts at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. Art and Cora farmed in rural Grundy County until retiring in 1974.

Art was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Chris.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora, his parents; one sister, Edna Thoren; and three brothers, Bliss, Asa and Ray Slifer.

Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Randall and husband Ron of Grundy Center; one grandson, Chris Randall of Grundy Center; two sisters, Irma Peters of Grundy Center and Dorothy Ruppelt of Steamboat Rock; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
