Thomas Albert Morris, of Parkersburg, passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo from a cancer illness. He reached the age of 43 years, nine months and 24 days.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 6, at 1:30 p.m. at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Larry Hoop officiated.
Pallbearers were Darin Stokes, Bryce Morris, Kenton Schneider, Cory Norris, Doug Abbas and Denny Osborn.
Thomas was born the son of John and Jane Osborn Morris on Feb. 8, 1956, in Waverly. He received his education in Cedar Falls schools and later the family moved to Parkersburg where he graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1974.
On May 6, 1977, Thomas Morris was united in marriage with Sheryl Arends at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland. They made their home in Fern for their first year. They then lived in Parkersburg and surrounding area until 1992 when they moved to their present home on an acreage west of Parkersburg. Tom began working at the John Deere Waterloo Works in May of 1976 and was currently working as a Utility machinist.
Tom was an active member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. He has served as a Deacon four terms and a Youth Leader. Through his work Tom was a mentor of "partners in education" at Elk Run School. In Toms free time he enjoyed deer, turkey and pheasant hunting with his boys and other family members. He enjoyed spending time outdoors in the timber and watching different wildlife. Some of his favorite times were the family vacations, fishing at Big Winnie and sight seeing in South Dakota. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially attending his children's church and school activities.
Tom was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Tom is survived by his wife Sheryl Morris of Parkersburg; one daughter, Alecia, at home; two sons, Brett and Matt, both at home; his parents, John and Jane Morris of Cedar Falls; four sisters, Mary Bausman of Waterloo, Rita Markussen of Frederika, Patty Morris of Waverly and Cathy Schneider and her husband Ken of Shell Rock; two brothers, John (Pat) Morris and his wife Lola of Cedar Falls, Orville Morris and his wife Chj of Cedar Falls; and his father and mother-in-law, Lee and Pauline Arends of Parkersburg.
Schwartz Funeral Home, Parkersburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
