Lois Peters, 89, of Grundy Center, passed away Friday, Jan. 19 at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church. Pastor Larry C. Hoop officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Lois was born April 10, 1911 in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the daughter of Will and Gretta (Knock) Smit. She graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1929. She graduated from Grundy Junior College in 1932 and later attended Gates Business College in Waterloo from 1938 until 1939. She worked for 23 years in the ASC Office in Grundy Center.

On February 20, 1962, she was united in marriage to Jerry H. Peters at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Parsonage. She was a member of the Church, W.I.C., the church choir and served as Sunday School teacher for 40 years. She was also on the board at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; step-son-in-law, Troy Anderson; and nephew, Dennis Akkerman.

Lois is survived by her step-daughter, Millie Anderson of Grundy Center; a sister, Marie Akkerman of Wellsburg; a step-granddaughter, Pat and her husband Gale Bonsall of Cedar Falls; and two step-great-grandchildren; nephew, Larry and his wife Kathie Akkerman of Wellsburg; niece, Joyce and her husband Wayne Blythe of Wellsburg; three great-nephews; one great-niece; one great-great-nephew; and one great-great-niece.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
