Henrietta Kruger, 90, of Grundy Center, died on July 9 at the Grundy County Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were July 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Pastor Daniel C. Graham officiated. Burial followed at the Colfax Center Cemetery, rural Holland.

She was born December 9, 1910 in Lincoln Township, Grundy County, daughter of Joe and Rena (Saathoff) Hempen. She attended country school in Lincoln Township, Lincoln #2, and then attended Grundy College in Grundy Center.

On December 16, 1931 she was united in marriage to John Paul Kruger at the Lincoln Center Church Parsonage. They made their home in the Dike and Holland areas where they were involved in farming.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church being active in the Women's Missionary Societies at both churches. She had also served as a volunteer for many years reading to residents at the Grundy Care Center. She enjoyed reading, sewing and gardening.

She is survived by sons, Ray (JoAnn) Kruger of Cherokee, Vernon (Sharron) Kruger of Grundy Center, Lee (Diane) Kruger of Ackley and Jay (Sue) Kruger of San Diego, CA; brother, Albert Hempen of Cedar Falls; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Paul on February 19, 2000; her parents; daughter, Byrna Kruger; sister, Jennie Emkes; brother, Herman; and infant brother, Reinhart.
