Eldon Meyer, 79, of Holland, died from cancer on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. Pastor Larry Hoop officiated. Burial followed at the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
He was born on February 22, 1922, at Holland, son of Ausbrand and Gepka (VanDeest) Meyer. He attended country school in Palermo Township, rural Grundy Center.
He was married to Marian Lynch in 1944 and they later divorced. He farmed near Beaman until 1950 when he moved to Grundy Center to work for Jack Buchanan John Deere as a mechanic. In the mid 1950s he began commuting to LaPorte City where he was employed by Bunz Implement and later Badger Implement. On September 5, 1959 he was united in marriage to Laurayne Claassen in Fairbault, MN and they made their home in Waterloo. In the mid 1960s he began working for Cordes Ford in Waterloo, opening his own shop in the garage of his home in 1966. He returned to the Grundy Center area in 1978 and to his present address in Holland in 1981. He retired in 1984.
He enjoyed camping and over-wintering for many years in Las Vegas and Pahrump, NE. He was a member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Laurayne; sons, Gary (Linda) Meyer of Waterloo and Dean (Paulette) Meyer of Grundy Center; sister, Effie Hook of Ackley; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marcus A. Meyer; and sister, Reka Knock.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
