Betty Seehusen, 85, of Grundy Center, died August 11 at the Grundy Care Center. Funeral services were August 14 at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. Burial followed at the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
Betty was born June 20, 1918, at home in rural Butler County, the daughter of Heiko and Rena (Kuiper) Tiggelaar. The family moved to Holland and then to Portage, MI, where the family lived on a celery farm. Betty completed her education in Michigan, and the family moved back to Holland. Betty then met Chris Panthen, and they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Eldora. They made their home in Eldora for many years, until they moved to southern California. Betty worked as a school crossing guard for a number of years. They lived in California until Chris' death in 1973.
After Chris' death, the family moved back to Holland. Betty began working at Grundy County Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care Unit as a nurse's aide, and worked there for a year. She met John Seehusen, and they were married May 2, 1975, at Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, rural Holland. After their wedding, Betty and John made their home in Grundy Center. John delivered CenPeCo Oil, and Betty enjoyed riding with John on his delivery route for many years. John died on December 8, 2002.
Betty was a member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church.
Betty is survived by two sons, Herman Panthen and his wife Joy of Lone Pine, CA, and Larry Panthen and his wife Caren of Northridge, CA; one step-daughter, Norma Lewis and her husband Jim of Parkersburg; two sisters, Agnes Hinders of Holland and Ann Popenhagen and her husband Dale of Oelwein, and numerous step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
