Henry Primus Died Last Friday at Grundy Hospital
Henry C. Primus, a lifelong resident of Grundy county, died at the Grundy hospital early last Friday morning. Death was due to cancer and a heart condition. Had he lived until the last of this month, he would have been 80 years old. He was born in Shiloh township and up to the last few years he resided in that township all of his life. All of his active life was spent on the farm.
The body was taken from the hospital to the Ferree Funeral Home where funeral arrangements were made. Services were at the Reformed church in Wellsburg at 1:30 Monday afternoon. Rev. G. Poppen officiated at the service. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.
Henry Primus was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Primus, among Grundy county's early pioneers. He grew up in the neighborhood where he was born.
In September 1899, Henry Primus and Berentje Jaspers were married in Wellsburg. The first year of their married life they lived in Wellsburg. After that they moved to a Shiloh township farm where they resided continually until the wife's death in 1944. Mr. Primus retired from the farm eight years ago and moved to Grundy Center where he made his home much of the time with his daughters and their families.
Large Surviving Family
Mr. Primus is survived by a very large number of members of this family. Among the surviving are 6 daughters, 2 sons, 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, a total of 43.The surviving members of his family are: Claus Primus, Parkersburg; Jake Primus, of Green Mountain.
The daughters are Mrs. Ben Wiltfang, Wellsburg; Mrs. Joe Ross, Grundy Center; Mrs. Chas. Rohde, Marshalltown; Mrs. Wm. Stoehr, Grundy Center; Mrs. Will Koch, Wellsburg; Mrs. Donald Fink, Grundy Center.
There are two surviving sisters, Mrs. Sara Doonan and Mrs. Carrie Thomas, both of Marshalltown.
The pallbearers were Calvin Wiltfang, Homer Ross, Bernard Wiltfang, Darrell Koch, Wayne Ross and Kenneth Stoehr.
The flower committee were Mr. and Mrs. Gary Stoehr, and Mrs. Kenneth Stoehr. Music by Mrs. Irwin Abels, Mrs. G. W. Schantz, Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman and Mrs. William Schmidt. Miss Marcella Neessen was accompanist.
