Rites on Friday For Harm Bunger, Lifelong Resident
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday in the home and later in the Wellsburg Reformed Church for Harm C. Bunger, 84, lifelong resident of Shiloh township, who died suddenly of a heart attack last Tuesday in Allen Memorial hospital.
Rev. George C. Poppen officiated at the service. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Casketbearers were Harm C. Meyer, C. C. Nederhoff, August Haupt, Lambert A. Bunger, Coert J. Nederhoff and Edward Nederhoff.
Special music for the service was provided by a ladies quartet composed of Mrs. Irwin Abels, Mrs. George Anderson, Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman, and Mrs. William Schmidt. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist.
Flower attendants were Mrs. Boyd Meyer and Mrs. Herman Eckhoff.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral included Ray Sietsema, Miss Tetje Sietsema, Mrs. Bena Bakker, all of Renville, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hegge, Sacred Heart Minn.; and Mrs. Will Ankinson, Waterloo.
In addition many of Mr. Bunger's friends from Grundy Center, Steamboat Rock, Eldora and Ackley also attended the service.
Obituary
Harm C. Bunger was born on March 16, 1876, in Shiloh township, the son of Coert and Taalke Bunger. He spent his entire life in the Shiloh township area.He was united in marriage to Miss Antje Nederhoff on March 16, 1910, and the couple began farming southeast of Wellsburg. After one year they moved to a farm 5 1/2 miles west of Wellsburg, where they lived until June, 1939, when they retired and moved to Wellsburg.
Last March 10, Mr. and Mrs. Bunger were able to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary together.
Mr. Bunger made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on March 27, 1927, and became a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.
On Sunday, June 5, he entered the Waterloo hospital for treatment, and was making apparent satisfactory recovery when at 10:45 a.m. June 14 he was stricken with a fatal heart attack. He attained the age of 84 years, 2 months and 28 days.
He leaves to mourn his wife; five children, Coert Bunger of Steamboat Rock, Mrs. William Bettenga of Wellsburg, Tielko H. Bunger of Wellsburg, Oldig Bunger of Eldora, and Mrs. Lester Kramer of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; four brothers, A. C. Bunger, John Bunger, Menne Bunger, T. K. Bunger; one sister, Mrs. J. O. Nederhoff, all of Wellsburg, and a host of relatives and friends. Those who preceded him in death were his parents; two brothers, L. C. Bunger and Kuno who died in infancy; and two sisters, Mrs. Hendrika Bakker and Mrs. C. O. Nederhoff.
