Andrew Olthoff, Lifelong Resident, Dies At Hospital

Andrew Olthoff passed away at the Eldora Hospital, Sunday at 4:45 a.m. following a lingering illness. He had entered the hospital on Thursday, July 14th for treatment.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated at the services.

Music was furnished by a duet, Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman and Mrs. Elmer Ruter accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen. Mrs. Jerry J. Lutterman and Miss Sadie Behrends were flower attendants.

Pall bearers were James Van Deest, Kenneth Cordes, Delbert Ross, John Ringena, George Ringena and Carl H. Nederhoff. Interment was made in the Reformed Church cemetery.

Mr. Olthoff was born on October 10, 1888, on a farm in Colfax Township, Grundy County, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Olthoff (nee Lena Reufsast). He attended the rural school in the area. He reached the age of 77 years, 9 months and 21 days.

On March 22, 1916, he was married to Kate Hook at the home of her parents by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they moved to a farm southeast of Wellsburg. They were the parents of one son and one daughter, both of whom passed away at an early age. In 1939 they moved to their present farm place. They were privileged to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary at their home in March of this year.

Mr. Olthoff was a long time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made Confession of his Faith in Jesus Christ on November 16, 1941.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, 1 son, John in infancy, 1 daughter, Kathryn in infancy, 2 brothers, Joe and Odie Olthoff.

Those who mourn his passing are his beloved wife, Kate, 3 sisters (Clara) Mrs. Fred Gossel of Hot Springs, South Dakota; (Annie) Mrs. Henry Paterni of Wellsburg; (Lena) Mrs. Fred F. Schmidt of Holland; one brother, Odie Olthoff of Wellsburg, and a host of other relatives and friends.
