Funeral Services Here Tuesday For Mrs. Lamke Schmidt

Funeral services were held at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church for Mrs. Lamke Schmidt, 93, lifelong area resident, who died at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Regal Manors Nursing Home in Iowa Falls due to complications of her advanced age.

Mrs. Schmidt entered the nursing home three weeks ago after having resided at the countryside Nursing Home in Grundy Center.

Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated the services. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers were Renko Schmidt Jr., Carl G. Schmidt, George W. Schmidt, Fred F. Schmidt, Herman Snittjer Jr., and Calvin Snittjer.

Mrs. Schmidt was born Lamke Snittjer to Mr. and Mrs. John Snittjer on July 3, 1872, on a farm in Colfax Township. She attended the rural school in the area.

On March 21, 1894, she was united in marriage to Carl J. Schmidt at the Colfax Center Presbyterian church by Rev. Vanderlas. This union was blessed with five children. After their marriage they lived for a short time in Colfax township after which they moved to a farm in Melrose Township. In 1926 they retired and moved to Wellsburg. Mr. Schmidt passed away in 1943.

She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed church having made confession of Faith on June 13, 1920. She was a long time member of the Ladies Aid Society as long as her health permitted.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, her husband, in 1943, 2 sons: Fred who passed away in 1916 and John who passed away in 1956, 1 great-grandson, 3 brothers, Herman Snittjer, Sam Snittjer; 2 sisters, Dena, Mrs. Henry Peters, Nettie, Mrs. Frank Bailey.

She is survived by one daughter, Anna, Mrs. Charles Claus of Peoria, Ill., 2 sons, Leonard C. Schmidt of Wellsburg, George C. Schmidt of Grundy Center, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
