George Paterni Died Tuesday, Funeral Friday

Funeral services for George Paterni were held on Friday afternoon, April 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman and Mrs. Elmer Ruter sang two duet numbers. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Carl J. Nederhoff and Mrs. George Murra. Pall bearers were Clarence Paterni, Lawrence Paterni, Stanley Paterni, Merlyn Mennen and Charles Cocking. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

George Paterni passed away very suddenly on Tuesday morning, April 11 enroute to the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center following a heart attack. He reached the age of 66 years, 7 months and 18 days.

George was born on a farm in Shiloh township southeast of Wellsburg on August 23, 1905, the son of John and Malena (Wolters) Paterni. He attended the rural school in the area. On January 7, 1931, he was united in marriage to Miss Susie Nederhoff. This union was blessed with two daughters. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in the Steamboat Rock area. They later moved back to Wellsburg and in 1944 moved to their present farm place on the west edge of Wellsburg.

He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church, having made confession of his faith in Jesus Christ on April 13, 1941.

Those who preceded him in death were his parents, 3 sisters in infancy, 2 brothers, Henry and Richard, and one sister, Hattie.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Susie, now confined to the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center; two daughters (Leola) Mrs. Duane Babcock of Steamboat Rock; (EtDoris), Mrs. Gary Parker of Greenville, Texas; 9 grandchildren; 7 brothers and 2 sisters; Remmer Paterni of Des Moines, Otto Paterni of Aplington, (Henrietta) Mrs. George Hoodjer of Wellsburg; John Paterni of Grundy Center; (Jennie), Mrs. Richard Rieken of Ackley; Herman Paterni of Grundy Center; Lenus Paterni of Wellsburg; Sam Paterni of Eldora; Jake Paterni of Wellsburg and a host of other relatives and friends.
