Rites Tuesday For G. D. "Dick" Janssen

Funeral services for G. D. "Dick" Janssen were held on Tuesday afternoon, July 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Edward Jurgens of Allison was officiating pastor. Music was given by a men's quartet, Eugene Ruter, Irwin Abels, Harold Lindaman and Duane Murra. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Richard Claassen and Mrs. Joseph Looker. Pall bearers were Randall Janssen, James Kuper, Arnold Kuper, Norman Nederhoff, Richard Awe and Carroll Smith. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church.

G. D. "Dick" Janssen passed away around 9 o'clock Saturday morning, July 15, at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo due to a heart condition. He had been taken to the hospital on July 10th for treatment. He reached the age of 76 years, 5 months and 9 days.

He was born Gerald Diedrich Janssen on Feb. 6, 1896, the son of Diderich and Anna (Kramer) Janssen in Augustfien, Germany. He received his early schooling in Germany. In 1905 the Janssen family came to America and resided near Wellsburg. He also attended various rural schools in the Wellsburg area. On January 24, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Grace Nederhoff at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Nederhoff, by the Rev. H.C. Bode. Following their marriage they made their home on a farm in Shiloh township southwest of Wellsburg. They lived there for 40 years and in 1963 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg.

He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Mr. Janssen was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, one brother and two sisters.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Grace; one daughter, Mrs. Anna Kuper of Algona; two sons, Carl D. Janssen of Wellsburg, Robert D. Janssen of Morrison, Colo.; ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers; Mrs. Anna Fritzel, Mrs. Helen Awe, Alice and George all of Iowa Falls; Mrs. Lillian Shane of Mosville, Ill., Edward Janssen of Lake Isabella, Calif. and many other relatives and friends.
