Hattie Flessner Dies Thursday At Co. Hospital

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Flessner were held on Saturday afternoon, August 23, 1975 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was clergyman. Mrs. W.D. Murray was soloist and was accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Helen Ohling and Mrs. Julius Zech. Pall bearers were Donald Arends, Arnold Arends, Wendell Lindaman, Frederic Beving, LeRoy Beving and Irvin Flessner. Interment was made in the cemetery adjoining the church. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hattie Flessner passed away Thursday morning, August 21, 1975, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Extended Care Center due to complications of advanced age. She had been confined to the Care Center since June of 1974. Mrs. Flessner reached the age of 92 years, 6 months and 7 days.

She was born Hattie Beving on February 14, 1883, in German Township, Grundy County, Iowa the daughter of John and Margaret (Sents) Beving. She attended the rural school in the area and later attended the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls after which she taught in the rural schools for seven years.

On June 16, 1910, she was united in marriage to John Flessner by Rev. F. W. Engelke, making their home in Wellsburg. This union was blessed with one son, Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Flessner transferred their membership from the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church of Ackley to the Wellsburg Reformed Church in April of 1922. She was deeply interested in her church, being a member of the Ladies Aid Society and a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Those who preceded her in death were: her husband, who passed away on January 7, 1957, 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her son, Thomas F. Flessner of Wellsburg; 2 grandchildren; Thomas J. Flessner of Cedar Falls; Mrs. Eugene (Nola Kay) Meester of Grundy Center; 3 great-grandsons: John T. and Brent Flessner; Dale Meester; 1 great-granddaughter, Dawn Meester; 3 sisters: Mrs. Mary Behrends of Slayton, Minnesota; Mrs. Dick (Anna) Arends of Ackley; Mrs. Margaret Lindaman of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
