Mrs. Antje Bunger, 95, Early Resident Here, Dies

Funeral services for Mrs. Antje Bunger, 95, an early resident of the Wellsburg area, were held Tuesday at the Wellsburg Reformed Church with the Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Casketbearers were Harm C. Meyer, Herman Stahl, August Haupt, Lambert A. Bunger, Coert J. Nederhoff and Edward Nederhoff.

Special music during the service was provided by vocalists Mrs. Elmer J. Ruter and Mrs. Woodrow Lindaman, and organist Mrs. Harvin Meyer.

Mrs. Gladys Eckhoff and Mrs. Arnold Arends were flower attendants.

Mrs. Bunger passed away early Saturday morning, March 13, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines due to complications of a stroke. She had been taken to the hospital on Thursday, the 11th. For the past two years, she had been confined to the Valley View Nursing Home in Eldora. She reached the age of 95 years and 15 days.

She was born on February 28, 1881, on a farm in Shiloh Township, southwest of Wellsburg the daughter of Oldig and Grace (Meester) Nederhoff. She attended the Pine Creek School in the area. On March 10, 1910, she was united in marriage to Harm C. Bunger in the parsonage of the First Christian Reformed Church. They then moved to a farm 5 1/2 miles west of Wellsburg where they lived until June of 1939. At that time they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg. Her husband passed away June 14, 1960.

On March 10, 1960, Mr. and Mrs. Bunger were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary with their family and friends.

Mrs. Bunger was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having been received into the church on March 1, 1926, by letter of transfer.

Those preceding her in death were: her parents, her husband, a son, Oldig H. Bunger who passed away December 10, 1975; five brothers, Carl O., Johannes O., Henry O., Daniel O., and Oldig O.; three sisters, (Jennie) Mrs. M. C. Bunger, (Susie) Mrs. Obo Haupt, (Grace) Mrs. Seibe H. Meyer and a half-sister, Mrs. Tjeste Sietsema.

She leaves to mourn her passing; two daughters and two sons, Coert H. Bunger of Iowa Falls; Mrs. Grace Bettenga of Wellsburg; Tielko H. Bunger of Wellsburg; (Reka) Mrs. Lester Kramer of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
