Arend Schafer Died Sunday

Arend J. Schafer, 86, died at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Home in Grundy Center Sunday evening, March 28, 1976. Funeral services were held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon, March 31 at the Wellsburg Reformed church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated.

Mrs. Edwin Behrends and Miss Luella Beving sang "Rock of Ages" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus." They were accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen. Pallbearers were Hilko Schafer, Kenneth Rhoads, Edward Ubben, Marvin Schafer, Kenneth Winters and Kenneth Adams. Mrs. Margaret Lindaman and Mrs. Kenneth Adams were floral attendants. Burial was in the Wellsburg Reformed church cemetery.

He was born March 5, 1890 in Wellsburg, Iowa and was 86 years and 23 days of age. He was the son of John A. and Hester Loof Schafer. He grew up and was employed on various farms in the Wellsburg-Grundy Center area all of his life. Arend never married. He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed church.

The deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carl (Tena) Madson of Hubbard, and many nieces and nephews from this area. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Relatives and friends returned to the church following the committal service for a period of fellowship and refreshments.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
