Family, Friends Grieve Death Of A. H. Geerdes

Arthur H. Geerdes passed away Tuesday morning, May 24, at the Iowa Falls Care Center in Iowa Falls following a lingering illness.

He had been taken to the Care Center on Saturday, May 21. He reached the age of 66 years, 7 months and 12 days.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman.

Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. M. Marshall Covert and Miss Luella Beving.

Pall bearers were Richard Nehring, Jake G. Lindaman, Sherwood Snittjer, Alfred Krull, Ray Snittjer and Thomas Long.

Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Wellsburg on October 12, 1910, the son of Henry A. and Alberdena (Neessen) Geerdes. He attended the Wellsburg school and graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1928.

He was preceded in death by his father, a daughter, Amber, and one-great-grandchild.

Survivors include 1 daughter and 5 sons, Douglas Geerdes of Wellsburg; Arthur Roger Geerdes of Waverly; Patrick Geerdes of Engelside, Texas; (Barbara), Mrs. Ken Arnote of Albion; Terry Lee Geerdes of Marshalltown; Gale Geerdes of Andover, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Dena Geerdes of Wellsburg; 3 brothers and 1 sister, Henry D. Geerdes of Wellsburg; Clarence Geerdes of Wellsburg; George H. Geerdes of Grundy Center; (Helen), Mrs. Arnold Arends of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
