Local Residents Mourn Passing Of Fred Ruter

Mr. Fred Ruter passed away Monday evening, January 3, 1977, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo due to complications of a stroke. He had been taken to the hospital on December 18th for treatment. He reached the age of 77 years, 7 months and 25 days.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, southeast of Wellsburg on May 8, 1899, the son of Eike and Trientje (Luppen) Ruter. He attended the rural school in the area. On January 17, 1929, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Terfehn at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they lived on a farm southwest of Wellsburg. This union was blessed with one daughter. They lived on several farms in the area before retiring and moving to Wellsburg on March 1, 1948.

Fred was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having become a member by confession of faith on May 15, 1932.

Preceding him in death were his parents and an infant sister.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Anna; a daughter, Phyllis, Mrs. C. Robert White of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Gary and Amy White; 12 brothers and sisters, Herman E. Ruter, Peter Ruter, Mrs. Lena Heinrich, Mrs. Ebe (Jessie) Finke, Mrs. Gertie Riekens, Mrs. Roy (Emma) deNeui, Eike Ruter, Miss Alice Ruter, John E. Ruter, Mrs. Delbert B. (Hilda) Lindaman, all of Wellsburg, Mrs. Grace Meyer of Aplington, Mrs. Edith Beck of Des Moines, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 6, 1977, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated. Mrs. Bernard A. Engelkes and Mrs. Edwin Behrends sang two selections accompanied by Miss Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Boekhoff, Jr. and Miss Sadie Behrends. Pall bearers were Elmer Ruter, Irwin Abels, Leland Heinrich, Gerald Meyer, Kenneth Van Hauen and Douglas Lindaman. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
