John Sietsema Is Victim Of Heart Attack
John Sietsema passed away Thursday morning, December 8, 1977, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, due to a heart attack. He had been taken to the hospital on Saturday, December 3rd for emergency treatment. He reached the age of 72 years, 11 months and 18 days.
He was born on a farm in Pleasant Valley Township, northeast of Wellsburg, on December 20, 1904, the son of George and Gertie (Haan) Sietsema, and received his education in the rural school in the area. On February 26, 1927, he was united in marriage to Agnes J. Jensen, at the Methodist Church in Cedar Falls by the Rev. Culver. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Aredale, Iowa and later moved to a farm in Pleasant Valley Township northeast of Wellsburg. On March 1, 1951, they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home. He was employed at Potgeter Grain Company for 17 years until his retirement. To this union was born one daughter, (Joyce), Mrs. Carroll Stahl of Wellsburg.
John became a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church by confession of faith on April 5, 1966.
Preceding him in death were: his parents and his wife, who passed away on June 6, 1968.
Surviving are: a daughter, (Joyce), Mrs. Carroll Stahl of Wellsburg; 3 grandchildren, (Brenda), Mrs. Randall W. Faircloth of Charleston, South Caroline; Janet Stahl of Key West, Florida; Bruce Stahl of Wellsburg; 4 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters and 4 brothers: (Jennie), Mrs. Arend Fisher of Steamboat Rock; (Matilda), Mrs. Neil Okones, Sr. of Wellsburg; Edward Sietsema of Wellsburg; Herman Sietsema of Wellsburg; (Esther), Mrs. Edward Mennenga of Steamboat Rock; George Sietsema of Wellsburg; Harvey Sietsema of Lake San Marcos, California and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, December 12, 1977 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Ronald Fisher was soloist who sang two numbers accompanied by Mrs. Allen Spieker, pianist. Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. George Anderson and Mrs. Marvin Stahl. Pall bearers were Bruce Stahl, Randall W. Faircolth, James Potgeter, Edwin Potgeter, Marvin Stahl, and Lavern Van Heiden. Interment was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
