Last Rites For Ben F. Hook Here Thursday

Ben F. Hook passed away Monday evening, November 6, 1978, at the Eldora Hospital in Eldora due to complications of pneumonia. He had been taken to the hospital earlier in the day for treatment. He reached the age of 87 years, 9 months and 3 days.

He was born on a farm in Grundy county, southeast of Wellsburg on February 3, 1891, the son of Fred and Catherine (Soorholtz) Hook. For many years he made his home with his sister and brother-in-law, Andrew and Katie Olthoff. On October 27, 1971, he was taken to the Valley View Nursing Center in Eldora to make his home.

Preceding him in death were: his parents; one brother, John Hook and one sister, (Gertie), Mrs. Harm Reiter.

Survivors include: his sister, (Katie), Mrs. Andrew Olthoff, now confined to the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington, one nephew and three nieces.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 9, 1978 at 1:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Mr. and Mrs. Duane Murra sang two duet selections accompanied by Marcella Neessen on the organ. Flower attendants were Mrs. Carl H. Nederhoff and Mrs. James Van Deest. Pall bearers were James Willems, Edwin Berends, Harris Reiter, Delbert Ross, John Ringena, and Kenneth Cordes. Interment was made in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
