Mrs. Wiltfang, 80, Dies At Area Hospital

Mrs. Gladys Wiltfang passed away Sunday evening, October 26 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 80 years, 9 months and 22 days.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wiltfang were held on Wednesday, October 29, 1980 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink and Rev. Gideon Wolbrink officiated at the services.

Two duet numbers were sung by Mrs. Edwin Behrends and Mrs. John Olthoff accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Mrs. Thomas Claassen and Mrs. Lester Anderson were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Michael Wiltfang, Mark Wiltfang, Jeffrey Wiltfang, John Wiltfang, Bernard John Baker III and Gregory Baker.

Interment was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was born in Wellsburg on January 4, 1900 the daughter of Henry C. and Berentje (Jaspers) Primus. She received her education in the rural school when the family moved to their farmstead southeast of Wellsburg, and also attended Grundy College at Grundy Center. On February 14, 1922 she was united in marriage to Ben Wiltfang at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage by Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Dike. They later lived on farms near Albion, southeast of Grundy Center, near Fern, and then in 1940 moved to a farm northeast of Wellsburg. In 1953 they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home. She had been a resident of the Long Term Care Unit since January 1977.

Mrs. Wiltfang was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by transfer of membership from the Parkersburg Reformed Church on July 13, 1953. She was a faithful member of the Ladies Aid Society as long as her health permitted.

Preceding her in death were her parents, 2 brothers, Claus and Jake; one sister, Mrs. William (Esther) Stoehr and one grandson.

Survivors include her husband Ben, two sons, Calvin Wiltfang of Grundy Center, Dr. Bernhard Wiltfang of Grinnell; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Berniece) Baker of Des Moines; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Joe (Marie) Ross, Sr. of Grundy Center, Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Rohde of Marshalltown, Mrs. Bernice Koch of Wellsburg, Mrs. Don (Helen) Fink of Gravois Mills, Missouri and many other relatives and friends.
