Raymond Rust Dies Friday

Raymond John Rust passed away Friday afternoon, February 13, 1981 at his home in Wellsburg due to an apparent heart attack, reaching the age of 54 years, four months and 18 days.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 16, 1981 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated. Mrs. W. D. Murray was soloist accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Mrs. Dick D. Huisman and Mrs. Gratus Ross were flower attendants. Pall bearers were Lawrence Bausman, Clarence Heinrich, Calvin Wiltfang, Willard Riekena, Leland Luwe and Harold Everts. Graveside military rites were conducted by the Amvets and American Legion posts of Wellsburg at the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Raymond J. Rust was born on a farm in Palermo Township, Grundy County, southeast of Wellsburg on September 25, 1926, the son of Aise and Tena (Bruns) Rust. He received his education in the country grade school in the area and attended Wellsburg High School. In 1953 he was married to Jeannine Childers and they were later divorced.

Raymond was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by confession of faith on December 20, 1946.

He served from 1950 to 1952 in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and then from 1956 til 1962 he served another six years in the Army being stationed in Germany for most of this tour of duty.

He was a truck driver in the area for many years being employed by Herman Hippen and Mayo Tjaden. The last several years he was self-employed having a small engine and lawn mower repair shop.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, Aise and Tena Rust.

Survivors include: his brother, Harm A. Rust of Grundy Center; his sister, Mrs. John (Janet) Flater, Jr. of Holland and several nieces and nephews.
