Peter Ruter Services Held

Peter Ruter passed away early Saturday morning, March 7, 1981, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to a heart attack. He had been taken to the hospital on February 24th for treatment. He reached the age of 80 years, seven months and 17 days.

Funeral services for Peter Ruter were held on Monday, March 9, 1981 at the Wellsburg Reformed Church at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Roger Huitink was officiating clergyman. Two duet numbers were sung by Pastor and Mrs. Roger Huitink. Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Harris Harrenstein and Mrs. Jack Deters.

Pall bearers were Clarence Murra, Roger Nederhoff, Duane Murra, Eugene Ruter, Leland Heinrich and Gerald Meyer.

The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Peter Ruter was born on a farm in Shiloh township, two miles southeast of Wellsburg on July 20, 1900, the son of Eike and Trientje (Luppen) Ruter and attended Shiloh No. 2 rural school in the area. On July 8, 1925, he was united in marriage to Fannie Murra at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they started farming 1 1/2 miles northwest of Wellsburg where they made their home for 42 years. On March 15, 1967, they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg to make their home.

He was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by confession of faith on August 12, 1919. He served on the church consistory for four years and also was a member of the Men's Brotherhood.

In 1965 he was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis and was confined to a wheel chair for 5 1/2 years. They had the privilege of celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary on July 8, 1980.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, two sisters, one in infancy and Mrs. Grace Meyer; two brothers, Herman and Fred Ruter.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Fannie; his daughter and son-in-law, Andeline and Irwin Abels of Wellsburg; two grandchildren, Mrs. Delmar (Maxine) Flater of Grundy Center and Leon Abels of Wellsburg; three great-grandchildren, Bradly and Kimberly Flater of Grundy Center, and Brian Abels of Wellsburg; two brothers and seven sisters: Mrs. Lena Heinrich of Wellsburg; Mrs. Ebe (Jessie) Finke of Wellsburg; Mrs. Gertie Riekens of Wellsburg; Mrs. Roy (Emma) deNeui of Wellsburg; Eike Ruter of Wellsburg; Alice Ruter of Wellsburg; John E. Ruter of Wellsburg; Mrs. Edith Beck of Des Moines; Mrs. Delbert B. (Hilda) Lindaman of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
