Luella Beving, Civic Leader Here, Is Dead

Luella Marie Beving was born in Wellsburg, Iowa, July 4, 1910, the daughter of Dick J. and Lena Boomgarden Beving and died Saturday, March 21, 1981, at the Grundy Co. Memorial Hospital at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 17 days.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 24, 1981, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services. Two selections were sung by Mrs. Luella Lindaman and Mrs. W.D. Murray accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendants were Miss Hattie Terfehn and Mrs. Naomi Peters. Pall bearers were Wendell Lindaman, Frederick Beving, Donald Arends, Arnold Arends, Harvey Behrends and Bill Lynch. Interment followed in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Biersborn Funeral Home in Union was in charge of arrangements.

Luella attended the Wellsburg Public School and graduated from High School in 1929. She worked as the bookkeeper in the Beving & Flessner business for a number of years including a partnership with her brothers John and Raymond.

Following her business career, she completed her BA and teacher credential requirements at Central College, Pella, and the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. Her teaching career included junior high assignments at Pella, Wellsburg, and Ackley-Geneva, and then served as school librarian at Ackley-Geneva until retiring in 1973.

Luella was confirmed in her youth as a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church and continued a life-long dedication to its ministries and activities. She was an active member of the Guild for Christian Service, taught an adult class for many years, was a member of the Women's Chorus, and assisted in Vacation Bible School.

She also participated in and supported her community's activities. She was a 25-year Charter member of the Wellsburg Study Club.

After her retirement in 1973, she gave liberally of her time in serving with the Grundy County Council on Aging and assisting the Senior Citizen group of Wellsburg.

She was preceded in death by her only sister, Margaret Grace, in 1918, and her parents. Surviving are her brothers, John of Wellsburg, Richard of Sedona, Arizona, and Raymond of Tucson, Arizona.
