Funeral Held For Raymond Riebkes, 69

Funeral services for Raymond Riebkes were held Monday, May 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Officiating at the services was Pastor Roger Huitink.

Two selections were sung by Mrs. W. Dale Murray and Mrs. Edwin Behrends. Marcella Neessen was organist. Mrs. Don Ross and Mrs. Mayo Tjaden were in charge of the flowers.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Cordes, James Van Deest, Marlyn Peters, James E. Miller, Lary Riebkes, and Wallace Heitland.

The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Riebkes passed away Friday morning, May 6, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to congestive heart failure. He had been taken to the hospital on Tuesday the 3rd for treatment. He reached the age of 69 years, 9 months and 1 day.

He was born Raymond Henry Riebkes, on August 5, 1913, on a farm in German Township, northwest of Wellsburg, the son of John and Dena (Christians) Riebkes. He attended the rural school in the area and when the family moved to Wellsburg in 1925, he attended the Wellsburg Public School, graduating from the Wellsburg High School with the class of 1934.

On March 21, 1939, he was married to Hilda Williams at the home of her parents. Following their marriage they made their home in Wellsburg where they have lived all of their married life.

Raymond was engaged in the carpenter trade for many years until his retirement in 1976.

He was a long-time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having joined by confession of faith on March 7, 1943.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, 2 brothers, John J. Riebkes and Riebke Riebkes in infancy; 5 sisters, Jennie Heitland, Mattie Getting, Grace Wulf, Hannah Miller and Fanna Janssen.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Hilda; 3 sisters, Miss Tena Riebkes of Wellsburg; Mrs. Andrew (Susie) Miller of Ackley; Mrs. Gesina Nederhoff of Wellsburg and numerous nieces and nephews.
