George Murra Succumbs At Eldora Hospital
Funeral services for George Murra were held on Tuesday, June 14, at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Pastor John Gorter officiated at the services.
Mrs. Ivan Slifer and Mrs. Harold O'kones sang two selections accompanied by Monica Doyen, organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John Hoodjer and Mrs. Douglas Tjaden. Pallbearers were Ronald deNeui, Richard Schafer, Lary Riebkes, Mike Nederhoff, John Hoodjer, and Douglas Tjaden.
The interment service was held at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery.
Arrangements were in charge of Doyen Funeral Home.
Mr. Murra passed away Saturday afternoon, June 11, at the Eldora Community Hospital following a lingering illness. He reached the age of 69 years and 7 days.
He was born on a farm, west of Wellsburg, on June 4, 1914, the son of Andrew and Afke (Jaspers) Murra and attended the Wellsburg Public School. On January 19, 1937, he was married to Kathryn Freese at the Parsonage of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Wellsburg, by the Rev. J.C. DeKorne. Following their marriage they began farming east of Wellsburg. In 1943 they moved to a farm west of Wellsburg. On October 24, 1980, they moved to Wellsburg to make their home.
George was a long-time member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg having made confession of faith on October 7, 1945.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant son, Eldon Lee Murra; 3 sisters (Mae) Mrs. Joe Kuper; (Kate) Mrs. August Haupt; one in infancy, and 1 brother, Alle Murra.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Kathryn; a daughter, Loretta and her husband, Lee Jones of Apache Junction, AZ; 2 step-grandchildren, Steven and Deanne Jones; 3 sisters, Mrs. Helen Ohling of Wellsburg; Mrs. Fannie Ruter of Wellsburg; (Carrie), Mrs. Carl J. Nederhoff of Wellsburg; 1 brother, Abraham Murra of Wellsburg and many other relatives and friends.
