Funeral For Eike Ruter On Tuesday
Funeral services for Eike Ruter were held on Tuesday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Pastor Roger Huitink officiated at the services.
A solo was sung by C. Robert White, and a duet was sung by Pastor and Mrs. Roger Huitink. A selection from the church hymnal was sung by the congregation. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist.
Mrs. Eldon Loots and Mrs. Jake Engelkes were flower attendants.
Casketbearers were Eugene Ruter, Irwin Abels, Robert Beck, Kerwin Strasser, Kenneth Van Hauen, and Douglas Lindaman. Honorary casketbearers were Elmer Ruter, Gerald Meyer, C. Robert White, Dennis Lynch, Leland Heinrich, Duane Meyer, Jon Fisher, and Curtis Beck.
The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery.
Arrangements were in charge of the Doyen Funeral Home.
Mr. Ruter died at 12:07 a.m. Sunday, July 29, at Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center following a lingering illness. He had been taken to the hospital for treatment on Thursday, July 19. He reached the age of 75 years, 1 month and 20 days.
He was born on a farm in Grundy county, southeast of Wellsburg, on June 9, 1909, the son of Eike and Trientje (Luppen) Ruter and attended the Shiloh No. 6 rural School in the area. He was engaged in farming most of his life and then in 1979 he and Alice moved to Wellsburg to make their home.
Eike was a long-time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made profession of his faith on September 26, 1947, and also was a member of the men's Brotherhood of the Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Mrs. Grace Meyer; an infant sister; three brothers, Herman, Fred and Peter Ruter.
Survivors include seven sisters and one brother, Mrs. Lena Heinrich of Wellsburg, Mrs. Ebe (Jessie) Finke of Wellsburg, Mrs. Gertie Riekens of Wellsburg, Mrs. Roy (Emma) deNeui of Wellsburg, Alice Ruter of Wellsburg, John E. Ruter of Wellsburg, Mrs. Edith Beck of Des Moines, Mrs. Delbert B. (Hilda) Lindaman of Wellsburg and many nieces and nephews.
