Services For Kate Olthoff Held Friday

Mrs. Kate Olthoff died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at the Maple Manor Nursing Home in Aplington due to complications of advanced age. She reached the age of 96 years, nine months, and one day.

Funeral services for Mrs. Olthoff were held on Friday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home. Rev. Philip Grawberg of Aplington officiated at the services.

Mrs. W.D. Murray and Mrs. Luella Lindaman sang two selections accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist. Flower attendant were Mrs. Carl H. Nederhoff and Mrs. James Van Deest.

Casket bearers were James Willems, Edwin Berends, Harris Reiter, Delbert Ross, John Ringena, and Kenneth Cordes. The interment service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.

Kate was born on a farm southeast of Wellsburg, on October 1, 1888, the daughter of Fred and Catherine (Soorholtz) Hook and received her education in the rural school in the area.

On March 22, 1916, she was married to Andrew Olthoff at the home of her parents by the Rev. William Landsiedel. Following their marriage they moved to a farm southeast of Wellsburg.

They were the parents of one son and one daughter, both of whom passed away at an early age. Her husband passed away on July 31, 1966.

She continued to make her home on the farm until December of 1975, when she became a resident of Maple Manor.

Mrs. Olthoff was a long-time member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Those who preceded her in death were: her parents, her husband, one son, John in infancy; one daughter, Kathryn in infancy; two brothers, John and Ben Hook, and one sister, Mrs. Harm (Gertie) Reiter.

Survivors include her in-laws, Odie and Sadie Olthoff of the Long Term Care unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center; Mrs. Lena Schmidt of Holland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
