Last Rites For Sam Paterni Held Monday

Funeral services for Sam Paterni were held Monday, February 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Officiating at the service was Pastor Roger Huitink.

Two selections were sung by Pastor and Mrs. Roger Huitink, accompanied by Marcella Neessen, organist.

Flower ladies were Mrs. Donald Huisman and Mrs. Albert Huisman. Pall bearers were Lawrence Paterni, Dale Van Hauen, Stanley Paterni, Royce Paterni, Charles Cocking and Richard Sicard.

The burial service was held in the Wellsburg Reformed Church cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Paterni died at 8:25 p.m. Thursday, February 6, at the Covenant Medical Center-Schoitz in Waterloo due to complications of a stroke suffered on the previous Tuesday afternoon. He reached the age of 69 years, 11 months and 11 days.

He was born on a farm in Shiloh Township, southeast of Wellsburg, on February 25, 1916, the son of John and Malena (Wolters) Paterni. He received his education in the rural school in the area. On October 4, 1940, he was married to Tena Meester at the Pleasant Valley Reformed Church of rural Holland by the Rev. Linneman. Following their marriage they lived on a farm in the Ivester Community where they lived until November of 1984, at which time they retried and moved to Wellsburg.

Sam was a longtime member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church having made confession of faith on March 12, 1944, and also was a past member of the Men's Brotherhood.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, one sister, Hattie Paterni; six brothers, Henry, Remmer, Otto, John, George and Richard; also three infant sisters.

Those left to mourn his passing are: his wife, Tena; two sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Henrietta Hoodjer of Wellsburg; Mrs. Jennie Rieken of Ackley; Herman Paterni of Grundy Center; Lenus Paterni of Wellsburg; Jake Paterni of Wellsbug and many other relatives and friends.
