Tena Madson Services Held
Funeral services for Tena S. Madson were held at the Wellsburg Reformed Church, Wellsburg, IA, on Tuesday, February 21, 1989, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Roger D. Huitink officiated.
Pastor and Mrs. Roger Huitink sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." The accompanist was Mrs. Harvin Meyer, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Ed Ubben, Marvin Stahl, Boyd Meyer, Ronald Jungling, Kenneth Rhoads, and Virgil Byl.
The ushers were W.D. Murray and Harry Duhn. Mrs. Katie Harms and Mrs. Anna Mae Stahl were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery, Wellsburg.
Tena Madson was born on May 22, 1902, at Wellsburg, IA, and passed away at 9:42 a.m., Saturday, February 18, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, where she had been since the 14th of this month. She attained the age of 86 years, eight months and 26 days.
She was the daughter of John and Esther Loof Schafer. Tena grew up in Wellsburg and attended school there. Then she worked out as a hired girl in the area.
On February 5, 1930, she was united in marriage to Carl S. Madson at Grundy Center.
In 1939, they started farming near Gifford. Then they farmed for 31 years near Hubbard, and in December of 1971, they retired and made their home in Wellsburg.
She was a member of the Wellsburg Reformed Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John, Henry and Arend Schafer and by two sisters, Jennie and Ida.
She is survived by her husband, Carl S. Madson, and by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
