Vernon Stahl, 85, of Wellsburg, died Jan. 8, 2000, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at the Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pastor Kevin Ver Hoeven officiated. A memorial fund has been established.

Pallbearers were Herman Groote, Dennis Harms, Lee Okones, Larry Bausman, Boyd Meyer and John Krull.

Vernon was born June 6, 1914, in Holland the son of Andrew and Rekah (Franken) Stahl. Vernon attended Colfax number 5 rural school and then attended one year of high school.

On Feb. 9, 1937, he was united in marriage to Grace Poppen in her parents' home in Holland. Vernon farmed his entire life around the Wellsburg area. He was active in the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

Vernon is survived by a daughter, Carol and her husband John Struve of Goose Lake; two grandchildren, Brenda and Jay Struve; a brother, Alvin and Grace Stahl of Holland; and a sister, Alma and Alvin Lutterman of Holland.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Grace on Aug. 19, 1988; his parents; a sister, Luella Nederhoff; and a half-sister, Esther Rindels.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
