John M. Rust, 76, of Wellsburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at the Ackley Presbyterian Village in Ackley of respiratory failure.

Funeral services were held on Friday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Full military graveside rites were conducted by the Wellsburg American Legion Post No. 213 and AMVETS Post No. 91.

Pallbearers were Alan Bode, Leslie Ubben, Mike Albers, Larry Ubben, Eugene Ruter and Dale Schultz.

A memorial fund has been established.

John was born on March 2, 1924, in Wellsburg the son of Harm H. and Margaret (Cullen) Rust. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1941. John served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Cornelia Steenstra on March 14, 1955, in Nashua. He farmed all of his lifetime on the home place near Wellsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia in 1988; and his parents.

Survivors include his two sisters, Susie Bode and husband Harold of Austinville and Virginia Ubben and friend Harvey Gerzema of Ackley; two brothers-in-law, Harold and Floyd Steenstra of Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Agnes Harper of Sioux Falls, SD; and by nieces and nephews.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home in Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.
