HIPPEN, HUTZELL, SMITH

Frank T. Hippen, 61, of Alden and formerly of Wellsburg, died from natural causes on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at the First Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock with Pastor Bruce Baillie officiating. Burial will follow at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery in Wellsburg.

He was born July 7, 1939, in Wellsburg the son of Herman H. and Harriette I. (Hutzell) Hippen. He was raised in Wellsburg where he attended the Wellsburg School System. He was married to Sharon Smith and they later divorced.

He had been employed as a maintenance man for the city of Wellsburg and as a heavy equipment operator for Hackney Quarries in Gifford, taking early retirement due to a disability resulting from an accident. He was a member of the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire Department and the Steamboat Rock Boat Club.

He is survived by his parents; daughter, Shari (Mrs. Ralph) Zesch of Alden; son, Jim (Dawn) Hippen of Parkersburg; sisters, Annabelle Penning of Wellsburg and Beverly (Mrs. LuVern) Van Hauen of Cedar Falls; brother, Herman "Junior" (Jolene) Hippen of Wellsburg; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Potgeter.

Doyen-Abels Funeral Home, Wellsburg, is in charge of the arrangements.
