John H. VanLoh Passed Away Tues., Funeral Was Friday

John H. VanLoh passed away Tuesday afternoon, November 26, 1968, at his home in Wellsburg due to an apparent heart attack. He reached the age of 62 years, 4 months and 19 days.

He was born John Henry VanLoh on July 7, 1906 on a farm in German township, northwest of Wellsburg, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John VanLoh (nee Johanna Riebkes). He attended the rural school in the area. He also attended the Wellsburg Grade School. On November 20, 1930, he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Dirksen at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church Parsonage by the Rev. F. W. Engelke. Following their marriage they lived on the VanLoh home farmplace where he was born. This union was blessed with two daughters. Mrs. VanLoh passed away on January 27, 1947. On March 24, 1951 he was united in marriage to Miss Elma Ruth Trampel. After his health began to fail they retired from the farm and moved to Wellsburg on November 16, 1966.

He joined the East Friesland Presbyterian Church by confession of faith on March 1, 1931. He was a Deacon on the church consistory for 3 years. In March of 1962 he transferred to the Wellsburg Reformed Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, 2 brothers, Reibke and Menno VanLoh, a half-brother, Jacob Kurtzleben, and a sister in infancy.

Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Elma, 2 daughters, (Viola), Mrs. John Ray Klosterboer of Grundy Center, Miss Mary Ann VanLoh of Greene, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Jans VanLoh of Ashton; Louis VanLoh of Wellsburg; (Tena), Mrs. Herbert Janssen of Parker, South Dakota; (Jennie), Mrs. Jake J. DeVries of Ackley and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, November 29, 1968 at 1:00 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home and at 1:30 p.m. at the Reformed Church at Wellsburg. Rev. Gideon Wolbrink was officiating clergyman. Music was given by a men's quartet, Irwin Abels, Harold Lindaman, Duane Murra and Eugene Ruter. Miss Marcella Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. Henry Geiken and Mrs. Annie Anderson. Pall bearers were John M. VanLoh, Arnold DeVries, John A. VanLoh, Alvin Koenen, Craig Twedt and Calvin Kurtzleben. Interment was made in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church cemetery.
