Funeral Held On Friday For Calvin Riebkes
Funeral services for Calvin William Riebkes were held on Friday, July 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Doyen Funeral Home at Wellsburg. Officiating pastor was Rev. David Dupee.
Mrs. Dale Heetland and James Heikens sang a selection accompanied by Monica Doyen, organist.
Pallbearers were Jon Nymeyer, Rick Riebkes, Randy Fraker, Russ Buseman, Alvin Lindaman, and Frederic Vanderwerf.
The interment service was held at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church cemetery near Ackley.
Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Riebkes passed away Wednesday morning, July 15, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following surgery. He reached the age of 54 years, seven months and 25 days.
He was born on a farm northwest of Wellsburg, on November 20, 1926, the son of John M. and Bertha (Vanderwerf) Riebkes and attended the rural school in the area. In 1946 he was united in marriage to Elda Vay Slifer and they were later divorced.
He was associated with the Farmers Produce in Wellsburg for several years and later moved to California to make his home. For the past two years he had lived in Ackley. He had been in ill health for many years.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include: one son and two daughters, Robert Riebkes of Hampton, Mrs. Terry (Donita) Poley of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Bryan (Colleen) Davis of Eldridge, Iowa; six grandchildren, three sisters and one brother, Marvin Riebkes of Wellsburg, Mrs. Clarence (Elnora) Nichols of Santa Ana, California, Mrs. Jack (Anna Mae) Deters of Wellsburg, Mrs. Charles (Frances) Nymeyer of Marshalltown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
