Melvin Meints Services Held
Melvin David Meints, 75, of Ackley, passed away on September 30 at his residence in Ackley.
Funeral services were held on September 3 at 10:30 a.m. at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Ackley, Tim Olson officiating.
Interment was in the church cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the American Legion Elliot Keninger Post #252 of Ackley.
Melvin was born on October 29, 1916 the son of Chas and Lydia Noordman Meints on his parents home south of Ackley. He farmed with his parents until he was drafted to World War II from 1942-1945. He was stationed at Las Vegas, Nevada for 3 1/2 years. He served overseas in Germany for seven months.
He was united in marriage to Bertha Boelman in 1944 at which time they made their home in Las Vegas. They started farming at Cleves in 1946. In 1961 they moved to their home where they now live.
Melvin was a farmer, a truck driver, and owner of a Western shop. He was a member of the Saddle Club of Ackley, Moose Lodge #1331 of Iowa Falls, and the American Legion Elliot Keninger Post #252 of Ackley.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean; his parents; and a brother, Floyd.
Survivors include his wife, Bertha Meints of rural Ackley; one grandson, Corey Meints of rural Ackley; one sister, Mary Jean Meints of Ackley; many nieces and nephews.
The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley was in charge of the arrangements.
