August "Junior" Ascher, 62, of rural Grundy Center, died August 28 at Red Lake Margaret Cochenour Memorial Hospital in Red Lake, Ontario Canada. Funeral services were September 3 at Wellsburg Reformed Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.

Junior was born June 6, 1941, in rural Grundy County, the son of August H. and Anna (Christians) Ascher. Junior was raised on the family farm east of Wellsburg. He was educated in Wellsburg and graduated from high school there in 1961. After high school, he attended the Universal Trade School in Omaha, NE. On August 14, 1963, Junior, was united in marriage to Mary Rops. They moved to their farm in rural Grundy County in 1966.

Junior was an active member of Wellsburg Reformed Church. He was involved in many church mission trips, and volunteered his time with other church projects, and he had also served as a past deacon. He was also a member of Snittjer's Coffee Club in Wellsburg. August was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa.

Junior is survived by his wife, Mary of rural Grundy Center; one daughter; Pamela Masiell and her husband Mike of Ankeny; one son Brent Ascher and his wife Mary of Dike; four grandsons, two brothers, Ed Ascher and his wife Beth of Wellsburg, Jim Ascher and his wife Diane of Wellsburg; two sisters, Thelma Ringena and her husband John of Steamboat Rock, Annabelle Schriever and her husband Lloyd of Ackley; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Rops and his wife LaDonna of Aplington; Marvin Rops and his wife Jeanette of Cedar Rapids; and three sisters-in-law, JoAnn Beving and her husband Eugene of Ackley, Betty Harken and her husband Donald of Ackley and Frances Hook and her husband Floyd of Maryville, MO; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, John and Lula Rops, one brother-in-law, Arlo Dougan; two sisters-in-law, Valda Dougan and Verla Rops; and one niece, Teresa Rops.
