Mrs. Sam Tjaden Died Sunday From Cancer

Mrs. Sam Tjaden died at her home in Wellsburg Monday. She had been sick about a year with cancer. She lost about half of her weight during her year's illness. She was confined to her bed the two weeks prior to her death. She was 53 years old.

Funeral services were held from the home at one o'clock Wednesday and later at the Reformed church. Rev. Wm. Landsiedel officiated at the service. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Mrs. Tjaden was a native of Germany. She was born Dec. 21, 1889. She came to this country when she was 22 years old. She and her husband grew up in the same community. Her maiden name was Tena Assing. She came to this country about a year after Mr. Tjaden came here and she joined him at Milwaukee and shortly thereafter they were married in Milwaukee. 29 years ago they came to Wellsburg and made their home here ever since. Mr. Tjaden has operated a blacksmith and repair shop here all of that time.

Surviving are the husband, one son and two daughters. The only son, Jurgen, is with the American army in Ireland. The daughters are Mrs. Harm DeBoer of Ackley and Grace, who is at home.
