William Stoehr, Lifelong Area Resident, Dies

Funeral services for William Stoehr were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wellsburg with the Rev. John Zimmerman officiating.

Vocal selections were provided by Mrs. Elmer Ruter and Donald Gummert, and Mrs. Norman Harms was organist, while Mrs. Eldon Loots and Mrs. Donald Gummert were flower attendants.

Casket bearers were Eldon Loots, Calvin Wiltfang, Jim Grimmius, Wilbur Fletcher, Willis Grimmius and Elmer Ruter.

Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery.

Doyen Funeral Home of Wellsburg was in charge of the arrangements.

William Stoehr passed away early Sunday morning, August 1, 1982, at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center due to complications of a stroke. He had been confined to the hospital since July 22nd. He reached the age of 81 years, 8 months and 1 day.

He was born on a farm in Colfax Township, southeast of Wellsburg, on November 30, 1900, the son of William and Tetta Goudschaal Sonius Stoehr, Sr. He attended the rural school in the area and also the Wellsburg Public School finishing the 8th grade. On December 30, 1926 he was united in marriage to Esther Primus at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Wellsburg by the Rev. C. Heinrich. Following their marriage they lived on the Stoehr home-place farm and making their home on this place all of their married life. This union was blessed with two sons, Kenneth and Gary Stoehr. Following his wife's passing away on September 28, 1975, he continued to make his home on the farm.

Mr. Stoehr was a long time member of the St. John's Lutheran Church of Wellsburg.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, his wife, a son in infancy, and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Fletcher.

Survivors include: his two sons, Kenneth Stoehr of Lincoln; Gary Stoehr of Grundy Center; five grandchildren, Stacy, Kelcey, Jeff, Gary William and Stephanie Stoehr; four step-grandchildren, Valerie Regan, Robin Ruth, Suezette and Kent Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Kala Stoehr, Brad and Adam Ruth; three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Emma) Grimmius of Grundy Center, Mrs. Leeno (Hannah) Grimmius of Grundy Center, Miss Wilhemina Stoehr of Des Moines; two step-sisters, Mrs. Etta Loots and Mrs. Davida Meyer, both of Wellsburg; and many other relatives and friends.
