Wellsburg Woman, Husband Killed In Auto Accident
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Svela of Dubuque were killed in a one car accident when their car went out of control 8 miles from Dubuque Sunday evening. The accident happened in Illinois on Highway 20 when the Svelas were on their way home. Their 1 1/2 year old daughter, Tina Marie, was at home at the time of the accident. Mr. Svela was 36 years old and Mrs. Svela, the former Amber Geerdes, was 33 years old.
Mrs. Svela was born on Nov. 4, 1947 at Wellsburg.
Survivors of Mrs. Svela are her father, Arthur H. Geerdes of Wellsburg, and her mother, Mrs. A. P. Arney of Avoca; also a half-brother, Douglas Geerdes of Wellsburg, four brothers: Arthur Roger Geerdes of Waterloo, Patrick Geerdes of Ackley, Terrance Geerdes of Wellsburg, and Gale Geerdes, stationed with the U.S. Navy at Port Hueneme, Calif., and one sister, Barbara, Mrs. Kenneth Arnote of Albion; also her grandmother, Mrs. Dena Geerdes.
Funeral services are set for Thursday, June 18 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Grundy Center.
Burial services will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Svela at Shiloh Cemetery in Wellsburg. The caskets will remain closed.
Robert Joseph Svela was born on September 12, 1943, at Moorhead, Minn. to Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Svela. Survivors of Mr. Svela are his father, Melvin Svela of Hopkins, Minn.; also one brother and several sisters.

Services Thursday For Mr. and Mrs. R. Svela Of Dubuque
Services were held Thursday, June 18 at 10 a.m. from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Grundy Center for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Svela of Dubuque who died on Sunday, June 14.
Surviving Mr. Svela are his 1 1/2 year old daughter, Tina Marie, of Dubuque; his father, Melvin Svela of Hopkins, Minn.: 1 brother, John Svela of Cheektowaga, New York; 3 sisters: Mrs. Kathleen Koehler of Hopkins, Minn., Mrs. Barbara Oracheck of Taylor, Mich., and Miss Mary Beth Svela of Hopkins, Minn. Mr. Svela was preceded in death by his mother. He was born in Moorhead, Minn. on Sept. 12, 1943 and lived in Fargo, North Dakota until 1955 and then moved to Hopkins, Minn.
Mrs. Svela is survived by her 1 1/2 year old daughter, Tina Marie; her father, Arthur H. Geerdes of Wellsburg; her mother, Mrs. A. P. Arney of Avoca; one half brother, Douglas Geerdes of Wellsburg; four brothers and one sister, Arthur R. Geerdes of Waterloo, Patrick Geerdes of Ackley, Terrance Geerdes of Wellsburg and Gale Geerdes serving with the United States Navy in Port Hueneme, Calif., and Barbara, Mrs. Kenneth Arnote of Albion; and her grandmother, Mrs. Dena Geerdes. Mrs. Svela was born on Nov. 4, 1947 at Wellsburg.
Pall bearers for Mrs. Svela were Douglas Geerdes, Arthur R. Geerdes, Terrance Geerdes, Patrick Geerdes, Gale Geerdes and Kenneth Arnote. Pall bearers for Mr. Svela were Charles Kieffer, Thomas Countryman, Steve Hooper, Ervin Splinter, Larry Derosior and Stanley Wiegers. Interment was made in the Shiloh Cemetery at Wellsburg.
