Elizabeth Ross, Lifelong Area Resident, Dead
Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Ross were held on Monday afternoon, December 5, 1977 at 1:30 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church. Rev. John Elenbaas was officiating clergyman. Mrs. Harold Okones and Mrs. Ivan Slifer sang two duet numbers. Mrs. LuRay Neessen was organist. Flower attendants were Mrs. John E. Riekena and Mrs. I. J. Harms. Pallbearers were Urban Jutting, Mark Jutting, Willard Ross, Richard Ross, Dick D. Huisman and Albert Huisman. The interment service was held in Shiloh cemetery. Doyen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ross passed away Thursday evening, December 1, 1977, at the Presbyterian Home in Ackley due to complications of advanced age. She had been a resident of the home since the spring of 1971, and reached the age of 82 years, 1 month and 12 days.
She was born on a farm in Shiloh township, northwest of Wellsburg, on October 19, 1895, the daughter of Ubbe and Swantje (Christians) Jutting. She attended the rural schools in the area. On November 17, 1930 she was united in marriage to Henry W. Ross at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church parsonage by the Rev. F. Engelke. They had made their home in Wellsburg all their married life. Her husband passed away on February 23, 1971.
Mrs. Ross was baptized in the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church on February 2, 1896 and was also confirmed there. She was received into the Second Christian Reformed Church of Wellsburg on July 6, 1939, by letter of transfer. The couple were able to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on November 14, 1970, with their relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Kuper and Mrs. Maggie Bauman and two brothers, Will and John Jutting.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
