Ben Reisus[sic] Dies Friday After Long Illness

Ben Risius died last Friday at a private nursing home in Eldora where he had been confined during the past year. He suffered a stroke 13 months ago which completely disabled him and kept him bedfast continually.

He was a native of Germany. He was born Sept. 26, 1872, and would have been 72 years old on his next birthday. He came to this country when he was a young man and for several years he and his family resided on a farm in German township. In 1915 the family moved to Buffalo Center. The wife died ten years ago and she was brought to Wellsburg for burial. A few years after the death of his wife, he came here to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. Henry J. Heikens, living west of town. He remained there until he became completely disabled.

Surviving beside the daughter are three grandchildren. One grandson, Julius Heikens, is now with the American forces in New Guinea. Ben and Betty Heikens are at home.

Funeral services were held at the Heikens home at one o'clock on Monday and later at the Second Christian Reformed church in Wellsburg. Two pastors officiated at the service. Rev. Wm. Landsiedel delivered a sermon in the German language and Rev. John Rubingh delivered a sermon in English. Burial was by the side of the wife in Shiloh cemetery.

Pallbearers were J. M. Bakker, John Reents, August Haupt, Herman Ruter, Andrew Ohling and Adolph Deters.
