Donald Lee Purvis, 86, of Britt, formerly of Wellsburg, died September 7. Funeral services were September 10 at the United Reformed Church, Wellsburg. Burial followed at the Shiloh Cemetery.

Don, the son of Leroy and Johanna (Stumberg) Purvis was born January 18, 1917. He received his early education in the public school in Grundy Center graduating in 1935 and later graduating from the University of Iowa where he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He taught one year in the Renwick School system before getting orders for active duty. From 1941-1945 he served with the U.S. Army in Newfoundland and in the CBI (China-Burma-India) theater.

On October 10, 1941, he married Evelyn Ross. After returning from the service he joined his father-in-law, John W. Ross in the implement business. He later bought the partnership and became sole owner of Ross & Purvis Sales & Service. In 1976 he sold the business. In 1982 they moved to Florida and moved to Britt in 2002.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, one in infancy.

Survivors include his wife; five children; nine grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
